Yes we did.

Emotionalism.

You all know it as well as I do. No sense in talking about feelings when you look around and see your emotions are mirrored in the faces of total strangers. For the myth we all tell ourselves about rugged individualism, people forget how lame individualism is compared to a party that fills the streets and pulsates through a nation. I might write a more thoughtful/reflective assessment of all this when the dust has settled more and it is not 12:30 am.

Off work early yesterday and immediately to Democratic HQ’s. Sara and I were paired with a nice lady and we went off to do some last minute canvassing in Ballard. As we drove north, I saw a huge thunderhead forming over Crown Hill and remarked “the temperature will feel about ten degrees colder than it did downtown. It is going to dump rain. Maybe hail. There could be electricity”. (Please note that I had not read a weather report since Saturday). We canvassed a few houses and were on our way to some more. Suddenly the radio announced that Obama had won Pennsylvania and things turned mystical: at that precise moment the sky flashed as a bolt struck down not even a few blocks from where we were standing. A huge roar of thunder boomed and the skies opened up with a driving hail. Throughout this deluge, the oblique light to the south shone through cloud breaks. So beautiful. So surreal.

Election Party at the Westin. History. Beauty. Hope.

Rode to Al’s through a party in the streets. Tooting car horns and revelers everywhere. Arrived to find a frenetic gathering of friends and strangers (although the line was blurred last night). A few hours had passed and I was far from sober. Rossi was interviewed and suggested he was nowhere near conceding. At this point I said one of the rudest things I have ever said and offered this assessment of Dino:

“Man, fuck that guy. Fuck him. He needs to concede and his time is up. He is a limp dick and he needs to pull out already. He needs to pull out, wipe off, and go to sleep. Its over. Fuck that motherfucker!”.

Imagine how happy I was to wake up this morning (still slightly drunk) and found that Dino had gotten my message. The sun was shining. I was late for work. It was going to be a damn good day.

ברוך אתה יי, אלוהינו מלך העולם, שהחיינו, וקיימנו, והגיענו לזמן הזה
