boats boats boats

Last week I was privileged to sail with the most seasoned San Juan 24′ skipper in the Corinithian Yacht Club.
This week I was privileged to sail with the most novice.

Gil’s crew knew exactly what they were doing. Their seamanship was amazing. Every maneuver was quick, and everyone knew EXACTLY what their role was. Gil’s tactical decisions were communicated clearly, and everyone responded perfectly.

Everything is opposite with Adie. An afternoon sailing is still better than an afternoon not sailing. But the chaos and lack of clear leadership on her boat is astonishing. I kinda want to experience some in-between crews, but I am not sure that will happen.

In other news, today was my first day as a brightworker. Very exciting. I think I will really enjoy this work, and there is really nothing more lovely than glossy varnished hardwood. I dropped a screwdriver into the water not more than 20 minutes into my first task–hopefully this is not part of a trend. I will be sure to announce it if (when is probably more like it) I fall in.

So tired. And sore from yesterday’s race.
